Two men gazed
through the prison bars
one saw the mud
the other the stars.
One lived in darkness
and could not see,
the other sought light
to look for the key.
One viewed the world
the other a cell,
one lived in Hope
the other in Hell.
One had his Faith
the other his Fear
one’s future was hazy
the other’s was clear.
Those eyes that had gazed
through the prison bars,
had both seen the mud
and gazed at the stars.
But one’s still confined
Whilst the other is free,
but when I look in a mirror
both men are me!
